TVS used to show this induction video to its new staff.

Welcome to TVS.

We'd like to tell you about who we are and what we do.

Firstly, TVS isn't just one location. We're actually quite a large independent station with a number of branch offices and facilities.

Our broadcast area spans the south and south east regions of England. That's a lot of territory to cover, but here at TVS we look upon it as a challenge.

Aside from broadcasting on ITV for our region, Television South also produces quite a large number of programmes which are shown by other stations on the ITV network, or Channel 4, or are sold on international markets.

All this work adds up to an enormous facility that spans four main sites.

Am I right in thinking that people with AS are likely to benefit from induction videos like this when starting a new job?

What a fantastic video. My son says he really enjoyed it and thinks that TVS must have been a great company to work for. It seems such a shame they lost at the franchise auction and now their studios in Southampton are abandoned and derelict. There's a somewhat retro feeling to the video seeing things like typewriters in the offices and cine film in the cutting room back in the years when the internet could only be dreamed of. I make a guess that TVS was only just starting out with computers for video editing and production when this video was made.

I definitely think that similar induction videos will benefit new staff with AS. People with AS often get nervous in unfamiliar or confusing environments so induction videos explaining how the company works and where things are are likely to give reassurance to people with AS leading to a higher level of confidence.

Your son might enjoy this video. TVS - Birth of a Station

It tells the story of how TVS was founded and set up in its early days.

Quantel Paintbox was a very popular software package for television graphics back in the TVS era. I have no idea whether TVS used it.
