Television idents

My first encounter with satellite television was back in 1989 shortly after Sky had launched its first channels. The satellite dish was white and nearly a metre in diameter. The mounting bracket contained a motor to rotate the dish to point to different satellites using push buttons on the receiver. After rotating the dish to point to the required satellite you selected the channel you wanted to watch using the receiver. Most of the channels were foreign but there were a few English language channels here and there. Awe inspiring was definitely the term to describe it.

I first noticed satellite dishes on houses in parts of London in 1988. Their owners usually installed them to watch foreign channels. My first practical encounter with a satellite receiver was in 1990 using a system installed in demonstration van at an outdoor public event.
