Hi, I'm new here and would like to ask for some advice!

Our 9 year old son was diagnosed with autism 18 months ago. He finds school life over-whelming and we have at last decided to HE. We haven't taken him out of school yet but are hoping to do so very soon.

What i would like to asks is where do i start!? I know what to do legally and how to take him out of school, but what about education, where do i start with that?

Also, how have you all coped with the negative opinions of people around you? Everyone I have mentioned it to have given me the 'are you mad' look!

Thanks in advance,
Beccy :D

Welcome.

Starting out in HE is a very daunting prospect, but believe me, it's actually easier than you think it is. Don't rush in and buy tons of educational material at the outset. It's often a better move to start slowly and gently. Some children need a readjustment period that lasts several weeks before they start to knuckle down to work.

Thanks for your reply. I have plenty of ideas and I already have some topics ready for Luke to learn about, like the rain forest. I'll take your advice and ease him into it gently.

Thanks again :D

A warm welcome.

I know the feeling of where to start with HE all too well. Nothing to worry about because it's sure to turn out happy and successful.
